Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) significantly increases the security of user accounts when accessing Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 online services. The following user guide will help to set up one of the following authentication methods.
Three options are available to authenticate with the second factor:
- Option 1: Authentication via mobile app on smartphone (recommended)
- Option 2: Authentication via SMS
- Option 3: Authentication via phone call
Authentication via mobile app on smartphone (recommended)
The recommended authentication method requires the Microsoft Authenticator app to be installed on a smartphone.
You can scan the respective QR code or click the link for installation.
Go to the Microsoft MFA Setup website and sign in with your credentials.

The Microsoft Authenticator app has already been downloaded and installed in the preparations. This step can be skipped.
The QR code for registration is shown.
Scan the QR code within the Microsoft Authenticator App.
After successful scan of the QR code, continue with “next”
A notification is sent to the Microsoft Authenticator app, which must be approved.
The setup has been completed successfully.
The user can now sign out of the website.
Authentication via SMS
Go to the Microsoft MFA Setup website and sign in with your credentials.

To set up authentication via SMS, the method must first be set to “Phone”.
Enter the mobile number and select “Text me a code”.
Enter the verification code received via SMS.
The setup has been completed successfully.
The user can now sign out of the website.
Authentication via phone call
Go to the Microsoft MFA Setup website and sign in with your credentials

To set up authentication via Phone, the method must first be set to “Phone”.
Enter the mobile number and select the “Call me”.
Answer the incoming call and confirm with #.
The setup was completed successfully.
The user can now sign out of the website.
